D+P "The Untold" Research

For this project I wanted to focus of getting to grips with looking at other images/artists work for inspiration as I felt that this research element to my image making was really lacking in my other projects. I therefore went on Pinterest and looked up various things to do with "Woodland" as that is where I imagined the "Foley" sound piece to originate from.

Bryan Nash Gill

I was particularly interested in the large variety of textures that you can find in this environment such as bark and the delicate structure of leaves. Whilst looking I came across the artist Bryan Nash Gill whose prints reveal the true complexity of nature through the growth pattern of tree trunks. He cuts massive cross sections of tree trunks and meticulously inks the surface and transfers the ink onto hand made paper.
To me these looked a lot like contour lines on a map, however I thought similar images that I could perhaps draw might be useful to incorporate within my designs.
